505,036 Fijians have registered to vote in the 2014 general elections. Of these, 248,966 are women and 256,070 are men.
Electronic voter registration phase III kicked-off today as the government is now focusing on rural areas where a high number of potential voters are yet to register. Registration will continue until June 29.
According to the government, the process is apolitical where every political party benefits from the process of registering the maximum number of Fijians to vote.
Phase III is concentrating on Fijians living in Ba, Macuata, Naitasiri and Rewa, where there are high concentrations of Fijians who have not yet registered.
New precautions and procedures have been put in place to prevent opportunistic people from abusing the process for their own benefit.
