Two prisoners who escaped from the Naboro Medium Corrections Centre last September with 3 others, appeared before chief magistrate Usaia Ratuvili today.
Isoa Waqa and Solomoni Qurai are charged with criminal intimidation, resisting arrest and damaging property while Waqa has an additional charge of theft.
Waqa’s lawyer Seremaia Waqainabete told the court during mitigation today that he is currently serving a 9 year prison term. The court was also told that Waqa is not allowed family visits and is kept in a dark cell.
According to Waqa’s lawyer, he is remorseful and has confessed/ admitted to damaging property. Waqa, 29, has a child from his defacto wife.
Qurai’s lawyer, Jeremaia Savou told the court that he needs more time to file disclosures.
The case has been adjourned to July 22.
