Fiji sugar will receive an additional F$69m assistance from EU

The European Union will give the Fiji sugarcane sector an additional F$69m at the end of this year bringing the total EU contribution to the sugar sector in Fiji to $136m.

The additional money will help farmers to replant 3,500 hectares of sugarcane which will increase yields from 40,000 hectares to 60,000 hectares on the same land, and for a single operation will add 70,000 tons of sugarcane to Fiji’s production each year.

The EU has also provided a grant of F$6.4m to FRIEND to support their various sugar sector projects.
