Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has confirmed that 540 soldiers from the RFMF will be sent to the Syrian Golan Heights for peacekeeping duties.
He revealed this during the farewell church service for the 171 soldiers last afternoon. It is understood that an official announcement will be made next month.
Meanwhile, the official farewell for the 171 soldiers who will leave for Golan tomorrow will be held in Suva today. Members of the public have been invited to witness this event.The Lt Colonel Sitiveni Qilio led 171 soldiers will serve for a year following which another troop will be sent.Some roads will be closed off temporarily in Suva today as well:
- Ratu Cakobau Road will be closed off from 9am
- Rodwell Road will be closed temporarily at 11am for the military parade through Suva
