A picture of very lifelike, hairy “anti-pevert” stockings on a pair of female legs has taken China’s version of Twitter, Sina Weibo, by storm this week.
“Super sexy, summertime anti-pervert full-leg-of-hair stockings, essential for all young girls going out,” posted HappyZhangJiang on their account. (Summertime?! It’d be like a sauna in those suckers.)
The picture has since gone viral, but no one has yet to confirm whether the ‘deterrent’ is actually a ‘thing’ in China, or just a very-niche, yet to take off business idea from HappyZhangJiang.
Responses on Sina Weibo, translated, range from the worried:
“This will not only prevent against perverts, it’ll definitely also result in preventing handsome guys from approaching you.”
To the unusual:
To the downright practical:
“If it has come to this, why not just wear pants? [insert crying dragon emoticon here]”.
I see one fatal flaw in this business model: these lovelies may just lead to more unwanted attention for a young woman on the subway.
I can, however, see four possible business opportunities. Your first market could be lads who are dead-keen fans of Desperate Dan and feel their leg hair is somehow inadequate. Your second, fancy dress party punters, natch.
The third could be ladies who want to cut through all the judgemental louts and seek a truly understanding (like deep down, very understanding) marriage-material man who they can live happily ever after with.
The fourth is: normal stockings just aren’t warm enough and these puppies certainly look snuggly.
