Fiji Roads Authority chief  Neil Cook has today admitted that the condition of the roads in the northern division is worse than initially thought and that in order to stay within the approved budget, some of other maintenance activities will have to be deferred.

Cook has confirmed that relocation of almost $5m from the roads budget is needed to begin the reconstruction of 40km of road in the North.

The FRA held a revised strategy workshop with bus operators and government stakeholders today.

Cook said that after inspecting more than 500km of unsealed roads, they have established that traditional lower cost maintenance practices will not produce the outcomes needed for roads in the North.
