The American Iguana, an invasive and introduced species, continues to pose threats to Fiji’s environment and the countrys local endemic iguanas.

This was highlighted this morning at the launch of the American Iguana Bounty Programme in Suva by BAF and NatureFiji-MareqetiViti.

The program, which will run for a six-month period, is aimed at encouraging people to catch American iguanas and trade them with BAF officers for a monetary reward.

For adult iguanas the reward is $10, for juveniles it is $5 and each egg is worth 50cents.

All American iguanas must be brought in alive.
