Alleged brutal assault prisoner’s family seeks ‘justice’

The family of a convict, Iowane Benedito, 27, who is currently serving time in prison for escaping from the Suva Corrections Centre in November 2012, will lodge a official complaint with the police against the men who allegedly assaulted him during his arrest.

Benedito’s mother, Viriseini Vakarau has confirmed that he was one of the handcuffed men who was allegedly assaulted. She said she saw her son lying in the tray of the truck during his arrest which was also part of a video which was leaked on the internet in March.

Vakarau admitted that her son had done something wrong but she wants everyone involved to be held accountable for their actions.
