Archbishop Elect Father Peter Loy Chong

Archbishop Petero Mataca today encouraged the Archbishop Elect, Father Peter Loy Chong ahead of his Episcopal ordination and installation this weekend.

Archbishop Mataca said that” “the position is not for honour but for service.”

He further said that he is glad to see someone he has worked with over the years mature in his role as a shepherd of the Catholic church.

In response, Archbishop elect Father Chong said that he still needs Archbishop Mataca.

Father Chong also unveiled his coat of arms today which expresses his vision which embraces both the church and theological perspective.

The ordination will be held this Saturday at the Vodafone Arena and he will be installed at the Sacred Heart Cathedral on Sunday.

This is a historical event in the Roman Catholic Archdioceses of Suva, Fiji as he becomes the second local Archbishop in the history of the Catholic Church in Fiji.

The ordination service will be conducted by the Archbishop John Dew of Wellington, Bishop Sowane Mafi of Tonga and Archbishop  Mataca.
The last ordination was in 1974.
