Assets, liabilities declaration deadine tomorrow

The Fiji Labour Party, Social Democratic and Liberal Party and the National Federation Party have until midday tomorrow to declare their assets and liabilities to the Registrar of Political Parties Mohammed Saneem.

It has been confirmed that Saneem has not received any word from these political parties yet.

However the NFP had earlier confirmed that they would file their documents by Friday.

The parties, the applicants of the parties and their executives have to reveal details on all their assets and liabilities.

According to the Political Parties Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures Decree, the spouses and children of the applicants and executives also have to reveal their assets and liabilities.

They have to provide information of the total income whether in Fiji or abroad, the source of such income, any business connections, any directorships, any business transaction entered into by each of them and any gift received by each of them whether in Fiji or abroad.

This exempts gifts received in the normal course of events from close relatives or a gift received in accordance with custom in the course of traditional exchange of gifts or in the case of a gift given on behalf of the nation, if the gift is transferred to the government as soon as it is possible to do so without giving offense to the giver.

According to the decree, all these declarations will be published in the media and gazetted.
