Duo in court for inciting political violence

Union man Daniel Urai and Sri Lankan businessman Jagath Karunaratne appeared before the magistrate Charles Ratakele today charged with urging political violence.Fiji Trades Union Congress President, Urai is charged with urging political violence against the government, while Karunaratne is alleged to be part of the group which wrote anti government graffiti in Suva in August 2012.
Lawyers for both accused filed affidavits with the DPP’s office to consolidate the charges.
Urai’s lawyer has also sought hard copies of the disclosures.
Both will re appear in court next Wednesday when the court will hear the state’s position on the consolidation of charges for both.
