FICAC warns con artists
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has today issued a warning to the Fiji public against soliciting and accepting an advantage.
Police have confirmed that they are now investigating cases in relation to people using social networking sites like Facebook to solicit money from people.
A case was lodged with police last Friday where a person created a fake profile of another person on Facebook by getting the photos from the victim’s profile, setup a bank account and started asking people to deposit money into the account in return for items that he was selling.
Police have confirmed that over $1,000 was deposited into the account which was later taken out.
Police have joined hands with the Financial Intelligence Unit to investigate a similar case in Fiji.
FICAC said those caught doing so will face the full brunt of the law.
