No surprises in the Rugby Sevens tournament of the South Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna as favorites Fiji are on their way into the play offs.
Fiji beat Tonga 24-0 in its third game and breezed through to beat Wallis and Futuna 34-0 and Tuvalu 55-0 in earlier matches today.
However, Team Fiji’s campaign to bring back the gold could be seriously affected as Coach Alifereti Dere is scrambling to get approval from the Fiji Rugby Union to allow two more players to join the sevens squad as back just in case of any injuries ahead of the finals.
Dere wants so athlete Jone Wainiqolo and weightlifter Tevita Tawai could be included in the team as back up as the squad only travelled with nine players.
Local media reports say that the Mini Games Council and Team Fiji have given their go ahead but they are now awaiting approval from the FRU.
Tomorrow, Fiji will meet PNG at 9.50am, Samoa at 10.50am and then New Caledonia at 11.55am.The final will kick off at 4pm tomorrow.
At the moment Team Fiji is in fifth place with 11 Gold, 12 Silver and 14 Bronze medals, while Papua New Guinea with the largest contingent, leads the Mini Games with 30 Gold medals already in the bag.
