Fiji TV licence extended
Attorney General and Minister for Communications, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has extended Fiji TV’s licence by 6 months.
He said: “Under the provisions of the Television Decree of 2009, the existing broadcast licence of Fiji Television is being extended for a period of six months with effect from June 30th, 2013.
“Until further notice of any additional terms and conditions, including spectrum allocation, that may be prescribed, Fiji TV shall continue to broadcast under the terms and conditions contained in its existing licence for the extended period”, he added.
Fiji Television Limited had requested that its broadcasting licence be extended for another six months as the company undertakes a restructure.
In a letter to Khaiyum, the Chairman of Fiji TV, Padam Lala, asked for the extension to be granted before the current period expires on June the 30th.
He said that Fiji TV is currently undergoing a restructuring process, which hopefully will be completed in the next few weeks.
“At this stage of the restructure, Fiji TV and its ultimate parent company, Fijian Holdings, would be content with an extension of (the) FTV broadcasting licence to the maximum of six months”, Mr Lala added.
