Fijian art inspires soldier’s underwear design

A Fijian soldier based at RAF Odiham is hoping to cause a stir with her new brand of modern designer underwear.
Reload Tribal has been created by Ana Lavekau, a Fijian serving in the British Army with the Adjutant’s Generals Corps.
Ana, 34, founder of last year’s first London Pacific Fashion Show, said her latest venture was borne from her two passions – the wish to elevate the message of safe sex to something more than just a slogan to all those serving in the armed forces and her desire to promote Fijian art, design and culture on a world stage.
“This is a uniquely specific label which is a wearable art with a fabulous tribal design that promotes HIV/AIDS awareness,” said 34-year-old Ana. “It is designed with a condom pocket to promote safe sex in the community.”
In collaboration with her brother, Fijian painter and artist Rusiate Lali, she believes she has created a “truly desirable, modern and wearable brand of underwear” which promotes South Pacific traditional patterns and the art of story telling along with a health message. “Underwear is a staple and basic wardrobe requirement, it is a ‘need’ more than a ‘want’,” said Ana, who was selected to dance in the 2012 London Olympics opening and closing ceremonies.
For every garment sold, £1 will be donated to the Fiji Network Plus charity. Visit www.reloadtribal.com for more details.
