FRU says Fiji 7s training squad selection process was correct
The Fiji Rugby Union is adamant that the correct process was followed to select the 21-man training squad for the Moscow Rugby World Cup training squad.
High Performance Unit general manager Mike Ryan told the local media today that the matter will not be discussed in the media however he is willing to discuss the issue with the selectors.
Earlier today, one of the selectors of the Fiji 7s team, Sailosi Naiteqe senior stepped down from his position saying that he is disappointed in the manner the Moscow RWC training squad was selected.
According to Naiteqe all the selectors were supposed to decide on the names however head coach, Alifereti Dere changed some names last Friday.
Naiteqe said that Seremaia Burotu should have been in the squad. France based Burotu is a notable exclusion from the squad.
Burotu gave an outstanding performance in the Marist 7s tournament and he also featured prominently for first time tournament winners Westfield Barbarians.
He was also named the player of the tournament.
Another classy player missing from the squad is Joeli Lutumailagi.

Leone Nakarawa, Lepani Botia, Nemani Nagusa, Joji Raqamate, Metuisela Talebula, Vereniki Goneva, Samisoni Viriviri, Jasa Veremalua, Waisea Nayacalevu, Watisoni Votu, Alipate Ratini, Ilai Tinai, Jone Vota, Setefano Cakau, Osea Kolinisau, Timoci Matanavou, Sakiusa Gavidi, Emosi Mulevoro, Donasio Ratubuli, Ulai-asi Lawavou and Sunia Kubu.
