The Fiji Rugby Union is claiming that miscommunication may have led to Fiji 7s player Nemani Nagusa being stopped from boarding the Korean Air flight with the Fiji team to Moscow this morning.

And the Union is now trying to ensure that he departs for Moscow on Wednesday.

The FRU revealed that the immigration officials at the Nadi international airport were ‘acting on a stop departure order placed on Nagusa by the Sigatoka magistrates court over a case classed as family action which dates back to March 14, 2013.

According to the FRU, ‘they had been advised by the Sigatoka magistrates court that all payments due to be paid by Nagusa to the female applicant in the case were made in March and there was no further order preventing Nagusa travelling with the team’.The FRU also said that ‘according to the court officials, the immigration department in Nadi had not updated their records’.
The FRU confirmed today that ‘if what the court had advised them is correct, then it will seek an explanation and compensation for the cost of a new air ticket for Nagusa’s travel’ to join the team in Moscow. The FRU has also revealed that calls made this morning to the Director of Immigration’s office went unanswered.
