Fiji Rugby Union chair, Filimoni Waqabaca believes that FRU High Performance manager, Mike Ryan resigned from his position because the decision was made to overturn his choice for the Fiji 7s team manager and coach positions for the Pacific Mini Games.

However, Waqabaca has also admitted that he is not familiar with Ryan’s reason for resignation.

Ryan who resigned from his position this week, joined the FRU in late January. His time as the HPU manager is the shortest term served compared to previous managers that include Peter Murphy, Daniel Lobendahn and Talemo Waqa.

It is understood that Ryan appointed Sailosi Naiteqe senior as coach for the Pacific Mini Games.
Waqabaca has confirmed that Naiteqe senior will still be considered and a decision will be made later this week.

The FRU Board will meet on Thursday to review the Fiji 7s team’s performance in the Moscow RWC and decide on coach Alivereti Dere’s fate.

Ryan’s expertise also played a huge part in the Flying Fijians recent Pacific Nations Cup win while there were also plans being made to establish a rugby academy in Fiji.

Ryan has opted to remain silent on this matter.
