Former Australian rugby league international Craig Wing scored a try for Japan in its 23-8 upset win over Six Nations champions Wales in Tokyo on Saturday.

The Eddie Jones-coached Japan led 6-3 at half-time over a Welsh line-up missing a number of their best players – as well as the nucleus of their coaching staff – because of the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia.

Wales leapt ahead 8-6 early in the second half through a five-pointer to Tom Prydie before Wing, playing in the centres, put the Brave Blossoms in front with a converted try in the 49th minute.

Michael Broadhurst added another try for the hosts 11 minutes later, while Ayumu Goromaru landed his second conversion and his third penalty of the afternoon to close out the scroing.

Wales won last Saturday’s opening Test 22-18 at Kintetsu Hanazono Stadium.
